Teaching Artists from Seattle Rep will be visiting BHS during 4th and 5th periods. They will be talking about August Wilson, an AMAZING Seattle playwright, give some on your feet monologue coaching and share with you information about the August Wilson Monologue competition. If you are interested in attending, please clear it first with your 4th or 5th period teacher and then let me know which period you plan to attend. Here's what they have to say about the competition:
Seattle Rep hosts the August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC). Students prepare a 1-3 minute monologue from Wilson’s Century Cycle and compete for a chance to perform on a Broadway stage in New York City. AWMC is a great opportunity for your students to receive monologue coaching from theatre professionals. The program is completely free for your students; they just have to show up! Although Wilson wrote about the African-American experience, this competition is open to students of any race.
